KUSCO-KSEA Scholarships for
Graduate Students in the US
Objective
To recognize outstanding graduate students in the United States who excel in
academics as well as in services to the community, and have demonstrated a
potential to become future leaders of the society for closer cooperation between
the U.S. and Korea.
Scholarships
- Number of recipients: 15* (*The number is subject to
change)
- Scholarship award: $1,500 each
Eligibility
- Graduate students in the US of Korean heritage OR any
graduate student in the US whose work is related to Korea-US science and technology cooperation
- Scholarship recipients must have a student status when
scholarship is awarded
- Major in science, engineering, or related fields
- KSEA membership (You must be a KSEA member in order to apply)
After completion of the membership application, KSEA Membership ID # will be emailed out immediately.
- Previous recipients of KUSCO-KSEA
scholarships are not eligible to apply
Application Materials
Application materials must be submitted ONLINE in PDF format
(except Application Form which is MS Word Format, doc not docx).
The maximum file size for each is 2 MB.
- KSEA-KUSCO Scholarship Application Form: DOC format
(2 pages). You can download it after login. Once filling up the form, you must submit it online by uploading.
- Essay: "The Roles of Scientists and Engineers for Modern World"
(800-1,000 words limit)
- Official transcripts from up to two colleges attended.
You may submit an unofficial transcript (PDF) or scanned copy of an official transcript (PDF) online, (The maximum file size for each is 2 MB)
but you MUST send an official transcript to KSEA for verification.
Your school can send soft or hard copies of your official transcript to KSEA
(admin@ksea.org electronically or mail to Scholarship Committee, KSEA, 1952 Gallows Rd, Suite 300, Vienna, VA 22182).
- Two recommendation letters from the college
attending (one letter must be from a current academic advisor and the other
could be from a professor or a current / former KSEA official such as Executive
Committee member, local professional Chapter President, or a Councilor). Letters must be sealed and directly mailed to Scholarship Committee, KSEA, 1952 Gallows Rd, Suite 300, Vienna, VA 22182

Evaluation Criteria
- Academic performance - 30%
- Recommendation letters -20%
- KSEA activities and community service- 30%
- Essay - 20%
Application Deadline
- Deadline: 5:00 PM (EST) March 1, 2012 (Thursday)

Checklist: You can check your application status online, including any
missing materials - your status will be "completed" once all materials are received.
Announcement and Award Presentation
- The recipients of the scholarships will be announced on the KSEA webpage
(http://www.ksea.org/) by Mid May, 2012.
- All graduate scholarship recipients are required to submit
an abstract and make poster or oral
presentations on their research areas at UKC 2012 (August 8-12, 2012) if travel
expenses are covered (travel expense availability should be known before the
award announcement).
- The certificate and scholarship fund will be presented at
the UKC 2012 Conference in California, August 8-12, 2012. If travel funds are
unavailable to attend the UKC 2012 conference, the certificate and scholarship
fund will be mailed to the KSEA local chapter president. Each chapter can
perform their own ceremony for certificate presentation. All scholarship
recipients are encouraged to attend the UKC 2012 regardless of travel fund
availability.
