KUSCO-KSEA Scholarships for
Graduate Students in US
Objective
To recognize outstanding graduate students who have excelled in the field of
science and engineering as well as in extracurricular activities, including
community services, and who have demonstrated a potential for becoming leaders
in the scientific community for closer cooperation between the U.S. and Korea
(Please see the last page for more information on KSEA and KUSCO.
Scholarship
- Number of recipients: 10-15 persons
- Scholarship fund: $1,500 each
- All scholarship recipients are required to
submit an abstract and make a poster or oral presentation on on their
research area at the 2009 US-Korea Conference on Science, Technology,
and Entrepreneurship in Seattle, WA (August 12-15, 2010). Travel expense
reimbursement up to $500 will be provided.
Eligibility
- Graduate students in the US of Korean heritage OR any
graduate student in the US whose work is related to Korea-US science and technology cooperation
- Major in science, engineering, or related fields
- KSEA membership (You must be a KSEA member in order to apply)
- Apply for membership here.
After completion of the membership application, KSEA Membership ID # will be emailed out within 48 hours.
- Previous recipients of a KUSCO-KSEA scholarship are not
eligible.
- Medical and dental students are not eligible.
Application Materials
ALL application materials must be submitted ONLINE in PDF format
(execpt the Abstract).
The maximum file size for each is 1 MB except the transcript.

- Online Application will start on 12/14/2009 and end on 2/19/2010.
- An abstract for a poster or oral presentation at UKC2010 (300-500 words in the online
application. Please refer to the UKC webpage, http://UKC.ksea.org/ukc2010/)
- Official transcripts from up to two colleges attended.
You may submit an unofficial transcript (PDF) or scanned copy of an official transcript (PDF) online,
but you MUST send an official transcript to KSEA for verification.
Your school can send soft or hard copies of your official transcript to KSEA
(admin@ksea.org electronically or mail to 1952 Gallows Rd, Suite 300, Vienna, VA 22182).
- Two recommendation letters from the college
attending (one letter must be from a current academic advisor and one additional
letter from a professor in the University/College). Letters must be in PDF
format.
- Current resumé (including education, work experience, publications,
extracurricular activities, and involvement in KSEA and Korean community activities).
Resumé must be in PDF format.

No supplemental materials beyond the above will be accepted.

- Academic performance - 30%
- Recommendation letters -30%
- Work experience and extracurricular activities - 20%
- UKC Abstract - 20%

Announcement and Award Presentation
- The recipients of the scholarships will be announced on the KSEA webpage
(http://www.ksea.org/) by May 17, 2010.
- Scholarship winners will receive their cerficate
and award at UKC 2010 in Seattle.
